Bayu Kusuma Lead Designer

Bayu Kusuma is a multi-disciplinary artist from Yogyakarta and currently live in Bandung, Indonesia. He has a distinct background, having been a former student of English literature without any formal education in art, philosophy, or film. His creative projects consistently draw inspiration from both independent and collective movements. Currently, the artist's primary focus lies in revisiting the fundamental aspects of cinema, as they believe that the only way to progress in the world of cinema is by looking back at its origins.
His work primarily centered around the concept of radical kino, which can be described as an anti-cinema movement that doesn't align with any particular political ideology or traditional cinematic conventions. Instead, it stands as a distinct form of kinetic expression. This kino movement deviates from conventional cinematic elements like literature, music, actors, or narration, and instead places a sole emphasis on showcasing a wide array of kinetic movements. These movements serve as the foundation for a multitude of interpretations.
While the approach can be thought of as a form of micro cinema that is perpetually independent, small in scale, and continually reborn. This perspective creates a creative space that exists in the realm between traditional cinema and experimental art video. In this 'no man's land,' the artist explores the possibilities of cinematic expression without being confined to conventional norms, and their work challenges the boundaries of both cinema and experimental art video.
